History of WEDOS / VEDOS
WEDOS was founded in 2010 and within 31 months became the largest provider of web hosting services in Czechia.
We have two private data centers that house only our servers and technology. In addition, the servers in the second data center, DC2, are cooled by an oil bath. We are not afraid to invest in technology, innovation, and research so that we can provide services to as wide an audience as possible. At the same time, this allows us to maintain very favorable prices for hosting services in the long term and respond to current market demands.
WEDOS DC 1 "Bunker"
Our first data center was established in 2010 together with WEDOS Internet, a.s. It originally served as a civil defense shelter in a strategic location. Between 2018 and 2020, it underwent a CZK 20 million modernization. We purchased a new transformer station and two generators, reinforced the free cooling, cooling, and electrical network, and created two independent branches of connectivity and electricity.
The data center has three independent Internet routes from two providers (3×100 Gbps). Each rack has at least 2×10 Gbps, and HPE Moonshot server cabinets are connected at 4×20 Gbps.
There are at least two people in the building around the clock. Key employees live in Hluboká nad Vltavou or within a five-minute drive. We have two in-house electricians with experience in data centers.
WEDOS DC 2 "Podskalí"
We began building our second data center in 2014 as a unique project where servers are cooled by an oil bath and water cooling. It is the first commercial data center with this technology for up to 10,000 servers. These produce so much heat that they can heat the city swimming pool in winter.
The data center is striving for the prestigious TIER IV Operational Sustainability certification, known as TIER gold, which only a few data centers in the world have. The entire infrastructure is being built according to these demanding requirements, which include strict standards for security, availability, and redundant power supply.
For example, there will be five motor generators for continuous operation, and all infrastructure will be separated by barriers certified to burn for at least 90 minutes.
History
WEDOS(abbreviation of WEBHOSTING, DOMAINS, SERVERS)
The company was founded in 2010. The entire process of building the data center and launching services took the form of a "reality show." Interested parties could watch as the premises were prepared, the cooling system was built, and the servers themselves were installed.
From the very beginning, we have taken great care in selecting our hardware (energy-efficient servers with Intel XEON processors). All installations are designed to achieve the lowest possible electricity consumption. Our entire system is built on a greenfield site, and we have strived for full automation.
September 2025– A new version of the Mailhosting service is launched – Mailhosting Business, with a capacity of 1 TB.
June 2025– We have tightened security and domain registration processes in accordance with new ICANN rules.
May 2025– We successfully defended our ISO certifications and extended their validity for another period.
April 2025– We have the highest number of registered .cz domains at CZ.NIC.
March 2025–WEDOS became one of the certified suppliers of DDoS Protection according to the German BSI.
February 2025–WEDOS simplifies: Hosting division under the new VEDOS brand, division of services
